The added depth helped the Tigers edged powerhouse Lakeville South 95-93 to win the Class 2A, Section 1 championship

The Farmington girls’ track team, with two of the state’s best distance runners in eighth-grader Anna Fenske and sophomore Lauren Peterson, now has top-notch sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers, too. The added depth helped the Tigers edged powerhouse Lake-ville South 95-93 to win the Class 2A, Section 1 championship in Lakeville.

“The ladies showed up to compete at this meet and did so at a very high level,” Farmington coach Tom Hart said. “It was a total team performance.”

Fenske placed first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, with Peterson taking second in both. They also ran on the 4x400 relay team that took fourth in the meet’s final event to secure the top team spot.

Another relay team member, senior Amanda Davenport, won the triple jump. Davenport, a top gymnast, added track to her repertoire for the first time.

“She had a great season learning different events and using her gymnastic abilities to excel,” Hart said. “I wish we had her for a couple more seasons.”

Sophomore Myiah Scott (100 hurdles) and senior Emma Record (100) and also took first place in the meet.

“Myiah is a versatile athlete on our team. She ran determined and very aggressively, which helped her win the event,” Hart said. “Emma took the lead in the 100 final early and never looked back.”

Farmington assistant boys’ hockey coach John Marsh has been promoted to head coach. He replaces Lee Goren, who resigned in April after one season.
