In an all-Gray's Bay battle far away from the lake they share, Minnetonka held off Wayzata and came away with the Class 3A boys' title at the True Team track and field meet Friday night in Stillwater.

The Skippers finished with 889 1/2 points to Wayzata's 811 1/2 to claim their first True Team title.

The True Team format rewards deep programs rather than ones with a few stellar individuals. Every finisher earns points for his or her team in every event.

Minnetonka was especially strong in the hurdles at Stillwater.

Angus Stoudt won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 39.17 seconds and was followed by teammates Jamie Crum (39.79, third) and Rashad Cohen (40.87, eighth). The three also scored well in the 110-meter hurdles with Crum finishing third followed by Stoudt (fourth) and Cohen (sixth).

The three hurdlers combined for 143 team points.

"If I won an individual event at state, I wouldn't be close to as happy as I am," after winning the True Team title, Stoudt said.

DeAndre Singleton won the boys' long jump with a leap of 22-4, and the Skippers' 4x400 relay team finished second. In the high jump, they picked up valuable points when Crum tied for first and Quinn Shepherd tied for third.

Wayzata was paced by its winning 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams, a first- and fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash, a second- and third-place finish in the 200-meter dash and a second- and fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Minnetonka's girls' team finished fifth in Class 3A. In Class 2A, Delano's boys' team finished ninth.
