Lakeville South senior Megan Kilbride concluded her high school girls' track career by helping the Cougars win the Class 2A state title this past weekend at Hamline University.

Kilbride was a member of the Cougars' fourth-place 4x800-meter relay team. Here is a closer look at Kilbride:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "Rudy." After I was accepted at Notre Dame, everyone told me I had to watch it.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Energetic; supportive; hard worker.

How do you balance school and sports throughout your high school career? I had to manage my time really well and plan ahead when I knew I was going to miss school for meets.

How did you get started in the sports you participated in during high school? I started running to train for soccer, but then I fell in love with the cross-country and track teams and I found that I enjoyed running.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... excited! I was a seventh-grader and I had worked hard over the summer to make the varsity team. I thought it was cool to train with high schoolers.

What were your goals prior to the start of the school year? Our cross-country team wanted to win state. We ended up finishing second, but I'm confident the team will be back stronger than ever next year. In track, our team goals were to win true team sections and true team state.

To get focused for a meet, I ... try to think positively and focus my mental energy on my strengths.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Winning True Team state with my track teammates. We have a special group of girls and coaches who decided we were tired of finishing behind Lakeville North in True Team sections. It was an incredible accomplishment to win True Team state after finishing fifth last year.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Lakeville North because they live on the other side of town and in track they beat us in True Team sections every year except for this year.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... they look back during a race.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I would find a way to make school activities less expensive so more kids can participate.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? I like to be outdoors exploring new places or camping and hiking with my family.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? Notre Dame because of its traditions. I'm excited to be part of the Fighting Irish this fall.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... a biomedical engineer working to create a better quality of life for people with medical problems. I also hope I have a chance to run the Twin Cities Marathon.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Run fast!"
