Emily Covert sets record in 3,200 at state meet

The Minneapolis Washburn junior broke a mark set in 2006 by Bria Wetsch of Holy Family.

Emily Covert of Minneapolis Washburn set a state record in the girls’ 3,200-meter race Friday at the Class 2A track and field state meet with a time of 10:06.19.

The previous record of 10:06.98 was set by Bria Wetsch of Holy Family in 2006.

Covert, a junior, set the record on the first day of the two-day meet at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Senior Khalid Hussein of Wayzata won the boys' Class 2A 3,200-meter run.
